Wann Japanese Restaurant

Comfort Food with a Twist

Wann (2020 2nd Ave.) is a stylish izakaya with an inspired menu that includes rarely seen treats from Japan such as kamameshi (a traditional rice dish served in an iron pot) and never-beforeseen twists on traditional cuisine such as bleu cheese tempura or tsukune served as a pan-fried ground chicken patty with grated daikon radish (tsukune is typically served on skewers in Japan).

“We pan-fry it to keep the insides soft and juicy,” says Chef Tsuyoshi Higuchi. Or try the yakisoba and takoyaki filled omelet with spicy mayonnaise, okonomi sauce, aomori seaweed and bonito flakes.

Bold graffiti along the south wall creates a hip mood in Wann’s bar, while miniature rock gardens partially visible under the steps of the dining room give that space a quieter vibe. A large room along the north wall is often used for birthday parties, and a small outdoor patio along busy 2nd Ave. provides a discreet people-watching venue.

If you’re on a budget, make your next visit to Wann on a Monday, when happy hour prices last all day. And if you’re planning a party, whether it’s big or small, Wann is the place. This izakaya, which also has a full bar, specializes in birthday parties and other festive events. Just ask the manager for details.
