 Boom Noodle sign

Inspired Riffs on Traditional Themes

A cute Japanese girl decked out in a John Deere jumpsuit and a baseball cap worn catcher style smiles back at visitors to Boom Noodle in Capitol Hill (1121 E.Pike St.). Printed on the chopstick wrappers, she is another treasure unearthed by restaurateurs and keen Japan observers Steve Rosen and James Allende.

They first brought Seattle the popular Blue C Sushi restaurants that deliver sushi on conveyor belts; then they added the eclectic, hybrid Boom Noodles to the mix.
“If Blue C is Shibuya, Boom Noodles is like you’ve taken a bullet train out to rural Japan,” says Rosen. Boom is much more than noodles – although the noodles are not to be missed. Try the miso ramen or wild salmon udon. Eecutive Chef Jonathan Hunt also offers some tantalizing riffs on Japanese dishes: try edamame puree, curry-potato croquettes, ahi tacos, and for dessert, the boom waffle, which comes with azuki bean jam and vanilla ice cream. Or you could go the tried and true route and have a bowl of ramen noodles Tokyo style, with a side of gyoza. Boom satisfies both the adventurous and the traditionalist.
